Project: Bird Observatory
Date: 2025
Location: Bollate, IT
Scale: Small

Located on the southern boundary of the historic hunting estate Villa Arconati (1621), a small disused and decaying structure remains. Its previous uses included a private armory, a granary, and an oversized birdcage. This project comprises a series of surveying and preservation steps, culminating in a proposal for a sustainable adaptive reuse intervention.

In response to the site’s historical use and location, the new intervention takes the form of a timber bird-observatory tower inserted within the boundaries of the existing structure. The lightweight material choices and permeable design of the intervention create a deliberate contrast with the site’s function as a boundary element.
